Frequently Asked Questions

How often is pricing data updated?

We regularly update our pricing data to reflect the latest rates from OpenAI, Anthropic, and other LLM providers. You can configure automatic updates in the app settings to occur daily, weekly, or only when the app launches. This ensures you always have the most current pricing for GPT-4, Claude, and other models.

How do I add a custom model?

To add a custom model with your own pricing:

  1. Open AI Cost Bar preferences from the menu bar
  2. Select the "Custom Models" tab
  3. Click the "Add Custom Model" button
  4. Define your model name, provider, and specific input/output token pricing
  5. Optionally add batch processing or discount pricing if applicable
  6. Click "Add Model" to save

Custom models are particularly useful for enterprise contracts with custom pricing or for testing hypothetical pricing scenarios.

Can I use AI Cost Bar offline?

Yes! AI Cost Bar stores pricing data locally on your device, allowing you to calculate costs even without an internet connection. However, you'll need to connect periodically to receive the latest pricing updates from OpenAI, Anthropic, and other providers.

How accurate are the cost calculations?

AI Cost Bar's calculations are based on the official pricing published by each LLM provider. For OpenAI models like GPT-4o, Claude models from Anthropic, and Azure OpenAI deployments, we regularly update our pricing database to ensure accuracy. The app calculates costs based on input and output tokens at the rate of 1000 tokens (or per 1M tokens if you prefer that display).

Can I calculate costs for multiple API calls?

Yes, AI Cost Bar includes a multiplier feature that allows you to calculate costs for any number of API calls. This is especially useful when estimating costs for batch processing or projecting costs for applications with many users.
